Present: John Fedor, David Cunningham, Jean Butman, Holly Boyce, Tina MacMillan, Cecilia McGuire, Whit Humphreys, Joe Trenn

5:20 PM Whit called the meeting to order

Fourth PLACE event:

Don’t include conserved land - we prefer a blank map for the purpose of marking favorite places with post-it notes.

We are happy and ready for Thursday’s event.

Survey:

Dawn will finish labels tomorrow

Jean went over coding information

Schedule:

May 26 at 7 PM Slide Show

May 12 at 7 PM Recreation Forum

June 5 at 10 AM Hike up Philo Hill (Meet at David Philips brick house?)

Mail out announcements of upcoming events on April 26-28 and omit Herp Walk. It is most likely too late to advertise herp walk anyway.

Recreation Forum:

Brainstorming: What do we want to learn from this event?

Much Discussion.

Five points came out of the discussion:

1. ACCESS

Is there sufficient access for you to participate in your recreational activity? What factors impact access?

2. OBSTACLES

Do you have any obstacles in the way of your recreational activity and are these obstacles particular to Benson?

3. COMPATIBILITY OF RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Can different recreational activities share access?

Has your recreational activity had to change for some reason?

Has your recreational activity changed over time? Why?

4. TRENDS IN & PARTICIPATION IN RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

How many people participate?

What types of people participate?

What trends have you seen in your recreational activity over time?

5. OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT

What could be done to improve your particular recreational activity?

Is access to waterways a problem?

Ask participants to bring a map of their trails (if appropriate) to the forum.

More consideration needed about what we would like to learn from the Recreational Forum. Ask Brian and Phil for their thoughts on the questions above? Do they have any additions? When the Steering Committee is done working on the above list, give to Brian & Phil to refine it so that it is appropriate for use at the forum.

The facilitators will not know the people who are participating in the forum, so it would be a good idea to have someone introduce everyone at the beginning of the meeting. Will Dawn do this?

The forum will be recorded by Dawn on a flip chart.

Participants: Table until next meeting. Add “birding” to list of recreational activities
