Understanding the Past, Appreciating the Present, Considering the Future was the fourth PLACE Program event of Benson: Past, Present & Future. The purpose of this event was to build upon the first three PLACE events by reflecting on how Benson’s geologic, cultural and ecological history and resources have interacted to create the landscape that exists today, and engage residents in a discussion about Benson’s future.

About 25 Benson residents gathered at the Community Hall to hear Claire Dacey give a summary of the first three PLACE program events and how they tie together.

Following this, Brian Shupe gave a presentation about factors influencing community change in Vermont and Benson. Phil Huffman then posed a series of questions to the audience. Responses to some questions were indicated by a show of hands, while others involved ideas that were recorded on flip charts. The audience broke up into three groups to discuss a series of questions about Benson’s future and then returned to the main group to report the results. Town residents were also asked to mark on large maps their favorite spots in Benson.

A video of the event is available on DVD. The cost is $5. To request a video, please e-mail a request to dvd@bppf.org or call John at 537-4461. PLEASE specify the name of the event and provide your name and phone number.
